Okay, if you love the Patagonia Black Hole Duffel but would love some organization, pockets and a dirty laundry (or shoe) compartment, then the Allpa Duffel is for you. In the same family as the widely celebrated Allpa 42L travel pack, the Allpa Duffel trades off the more compartmentalized interior and clamshell opening for a simpler cavernous duffel. On the plus side it’s easy to pile stuff in without having to worry too much about organization. On a recent weeklong trip I managed to load my Allpa with clothes for 1 adult and 1 kid with room to spare.

The Allpa Duffel 50 is sturdily made. The details matter over there at Cotopaxi.

There are Velcro enclosures on each side to store the duffel straps, the backpack straps can be taken off.

There are two additional external zippered pockets; one on the side and one on the top of the bag. Both compartments are about 10” wide and easily fit chargers, cables, passports and all manner of things that you might want to keep handy without opening the duffel itself.

Inside the duffel, there’s one large (14.5 inches long by about 11 inches tall) mesh pocket for any items that you might not want to get lost in the duffel.

Another clutch feature is the “dirty laundry compartment”. It’s great to have a place to store the smelly stuff without stinking up the whole bag. It’s also very handy as a shoe compartment.

If you absolutely want to keep your cargo  highly organized, you may want to go for the Allpa 42L Travel pack. On the other hand, if you want a simple and efficient way to get a bunch of stuff from one place to the next (and aren’t living day to day out of it) the Allpa 50L duffel is an excellent choice.

The Allpa 50 Duffel has replaced my Patagonia Black Hole Duffel due to the extra pockets and organization. The many colors are also really fun.
